The CocoBot Mobile App System was created over the course of six months by five HCDE students for their senior capstone project. The mobile application is aimed to create an succinct and effective mobile experience for caregivers, especially those with children with chronic illnesses.
About
CocoBot is an empathetic AI chatbot that assists caregivers of children with chronic health conditions in underserved communities. Its purpose is to help relieve the mental and physical health concerns these caregivers face due to the stressful caregiving tasks.
CoboBot will provide them with self-care recommendations and resources and emotional support. Our goal for this project is to design the mobile platform for the chatbot, which will support CocoBot’s primary goal: to improve the wellbeing of caregivers by reducing fatigue and stress.

Overview
The CocoBot team is a group at UW developing a chatbot app to help caregivers of children with chronic illnesses. This is inspired by previous research from the team on how these caregivers, specifically those in underserved communities, have minimal support resources to aid them. As a student design team, we were approached to define the overall design vision of the CocoBot app with the goal of creating a simple and intuitive experience that would enrich caregivers' lives.
The first three months were dedicated to laying the groundwork for the project. We worked closely with our sponsor to understand the problem space, ideate application features, and craft a design proposal to present to the CocoBot team. The last three months were dedicated to wireframing, conducting usability sessions with real users, and designing hi-fidelity mockups and an interactive prototype.
One unique aspect of the design process for this project was developing the conversation design.
As a chatbot app, a major part of the user experience is how the users talk to CocoBot. In development, a majority of this experience will be determined through AI. However, we still needed to design the overall structure of the sessions, conversational tone, likely user response options, and other facets of the chat experience.
Below is the walkthrough of the various features of the CocoBot app.
The final project video provides a summarization of how the CocoBot app works and what it aims to accomplish. We handed off all the final deliverables— design assets, conversation flows and scripts, research reports, and clickable prototypes— to the CocoBot team as they continue to refine and develop the application.
